Crown Court
Crown Courts carry out various types of activity including:-
Serious cases, such as causing grievous bodily harm with intent and robbery are sent straight from the Magistrates Court to the Crown Court due to their power to impose greater sentences.
The most serious cases can only be dealt with in the Crown Court.
Sometimes defendants can be tried in the Magistrates Court and after conviction, committed to the Crown Court for sentence
* Appeals from decisions made by magistrates
* Sentencing of those who are convicted in the Crown Court, either after trial, or on pleading guilty
When a jury is in session, the evidence is presented by the Prosecution and Defence and the jury consider the evidence and decide all the issues of fact, guided on law by the Judge.
