Injunctions
Injunctions are used when people in a relationship feel that they are unsafe or feel threatened, either with violence or abuse, but also if they are needed to ensure that that person has somewhere to live if there is any risk of being forced out or kept out of the family home by their partner. Injunctions are not limited just to persons in a marriage or civil partnership, but cover situations where two persons are simply in a family relationship.
If this is happening to you, the injunction can be put in place to stop your partner or another person from threatening you, forcing you out of the family home, or preventing you from entering the family home.
It will place certain restrictions on the other person or persons, and can be obtained from the court at short notice - or in certain circumstances on the same day.
Once these injunctions are in place if the other party breaks them, then he or she will be taken back to Court, and the court will considre the next step, which may include a prison sentence.
